With the spring semester almost finished and only a week left, many students are still trying to figure out whether they are taking a summer course or not.
At Lyndon State College, it costs $343 per credit for a Vermonter, and for a non-Vermonter it costs $514 per credit. The price difference between whether your in state or out-of-state is $171 per credit.
“I think a good amount of students are receiving aid, most people I’ve talked to are in some way,” Jacqueline Laviolette, a freshman at LSC said.
At Lyndon, to take a three-credit course for an out-of-state student it would cost them $1,542.
Most courses at LSC are worth three credits or more. For many students it is a lot of money to be spending during the summer.
“You need to be enrolled in six credits to receive financial aid,” Laviolette said.
“It costs $2000 per class and I don’t think most students get financial aid, that’s my guess,” freshman Jeremiah Bouchard said.
The college has a page on its website that reads “tuition and costs”, but looking at it only really has the prices of the fall and spring semester. So many students don’t know the price for the summer courses.
“I don’t know the cost, but I think it’s like $750 or something and I have no idea how many people get financial aid,” LSC student Heather Fortin said.
For many students it is too expensive to pay for tuition for both the fall and spring semester and then take summer courses also.
If a student takes six credits it costs them around $3,000.
“I know it’s just over three thousand for six credits and after that it stays at one price. You don’t pay more than that,”Ashley Ahern said.
Students are receiving some financial aid from the school, but students are paying with loans and saving their money.
