Less than a week after The Critic broke the exclusive story of a professor at Johnson State College accused of sexual harassment, JSC students began circulating a petition to get him dismissed from his job.

The Critic first reported the story on lyndonstatecritic.com on Friday, Aug. 31, about a JSC student, Nicole Daigneault, 32, who accused JSC professor Fred Wiseman of allegedly sexually harassing her.

JSC’s student newspaper, Basement Medicine, reported that the petition appeared on their campus on Thursday, Sept. 6.

The petition is calling for Wiseman’s immediate dismissal after unconfirmed reports said he would not be leaving the college.

Liz Spier, a senior at JSC, said that students initiating the petition feel unsafe having Wiseman on campus.

“They feel disregarded by the administration,” she said. “They feel violated. They feel like there’s no safe zone anymore.  The fact that the staff has been told not to talk about it is far more concerning, the fact that the administration has swept it under the rug.”

According to the paper, it is unclear how many students have signed the petition so far.
