Hornets upset Husson
Jason Gray's putback with two-tenths of a second remaining lifted Lyndon to a stunning 86-84 win over Husson University in North Atlantic Conference men's basketball action at Stannard Gymnasium Saturday afternoon.
The Hornets' D.J. Santos tied the game at 84-84 with a pair of free throws with 24.7 left in regulation. On the ensuing Husson possession, Santos forced a turnover near midcourt and sprinted toward the Lyndon basket with two Eagle defenders applying pressure. Santos' layup attempt did not find its mark, but Gray swooped in to collect the rebound and lay it home to give the Hornets the victory.
Gray had 17 points to lead Lyndon while the threesome of Santos, Phil Warrick and O'Bee Byrd tallied 12 each. Byrd had five blocked shots in the game, Santos had a team-high four assists and Jose Fortunato had three steals.
Antonio Mena had double figures in rebounds for a second consecutive game with 13 as Lyndon improved to 8-12 overall and 7-2 in the NAC.
Husson's Josh Jones had 29 points, 16 rebounds and five steals in the loss while teammate Jay Uhrin chipped in 18 points. Daeshawn McMorrin and Marc Zaharchuk had 13 and 11 points, respectively, for the Eagles, who fell to 15-5 overall and 8-1 in league play.
