Despite Winless Start, Women's Tennis Still in Playoff Picture
The Lyndon State Women's Tennis team is off to a disappointing start this season, losing its first six matches, including a crushing 9-0 defeat today against Plattsburgh State.
Head Coach Sue Henry and her team headed into the season looking to improve on their third place finish in the North Atlantic Conference last season, but have struggled so far.
The Lady Hornets are in last place in the NAC East Division with a 0-6 record that includes three conference losses:a 8-0 shutoutby Colby-Sawyer (6-2, 3-0 NAC), and two close battles, one to rival Castleton State (4-4, 3-0 NAC) and the other to Thomas College (2-3, 2-2 NAC). Both of those matches ended against the Hornets favor 5-4.
Thiswas not the start that sophomore Olivia Bernard was hoping for her and her team.
"The season is definitely not going as well as planned," Bernardsaid. "As a team we had high hopes."
Despite their early struggles, the team is still aiming for theplayoffs. Bernard said the team's early losses have given them motivation to make a push.
"Being almost halfway through our season," she said, "it's giving us a little more motivation to pick it up the next time we play each team."
The Lady Hornets are by far not out of the playoff picture, with MCLA not having won a game yet in the NAC, and Johnson State sitting with only one win in-conference. With six more conference matches, the Lady Hornets are merely just beginning their conference bouts.
