Deck the Walls With Local Art
The Community Comes Together to Decorate the President's House
Artwork loaned from students, faculty and locals throughout the Lyndon community will soon be displayed in the president's house.
An ad posted on the LSC portal last Wednesday asked for prints, paintings and photographs to be loaned or donated to decorate three
rooms on the first floor of President Joe Bertolino's new home.
Each room is themed according to seasons: the spring/summer room will be traditional, light and airy with pale yellow walls and any number of paintings, both oil and water-color, prints and possibly fabrics or tapestries.
The autumn room will display a modern, professional and clean design with blue-gray walls and larger-scaled photography, prints and graphics.
The winter-themed room will be dark beige in color, and will
feature one or two winter themed works. The room will also be devoted to LSC
sports and historical memorabilia
Darcie Miles, executive assistant to the president, is heading the design team for
the project consisting of students, faculty and staff. The team is responsible for the
idea of using loaned and donated art as well.
An email from President Bertolino said the committee, "thought it would be
nice to involve the community since the house is the 'college's house.'"
The president also wrote that displaying the loaned artwork was, "to showcase our
own college community talent."
The artwork will be changed out periodically, depending on when and what is received. So far, seven people have already approached her about loaning or
donating work, Miles said.
In a few week's time, the art drive - in addition to all other new furnishings expected for the president's house - will be complete and
ready for the numerous special presidential events and dinners to be held at the
house this year.
