Mixed Feelings Among Students About C.A.B. Trip to Rhode Island
This Saturday marks the first ever bus trip to Rhode Island offered by the Campus Activities Board here at Lyndon State College.
"I really wish I could have gone. I have family that I would love to see, and Providence is a nice place to visit," said Torrance Gaucher, a junior at LSC.
The decision to go to Providence, R.I. was made by the students last semester. Kayla Carlozzi, the C.A.B. Director said by email, "The decision was based upon a question that CAB posted on Facebook last semester. They ask where people wanted to go and Rhode Island came in first place."
The students who attend the trip will be dropped off at Waterplace Park and can go about by themselves or in groups to wherever they like.
The bus down will be leaving from the ASAC parking lot at 8 a.m. and will get to Providence around 11:30 a.m. The bus will then leave from Providence at 7 p.m. and arrive back at LSC around 11 p.m.
"The Mall is a good place to wander," said Gaucher. "Fire and Ice would be a place people should go and eat. They have great food and a cool show to go along with it."
The bus trip is completely free for all matriculated students. All the funds for the trip come out of the $100,000 allocated for the C.A.B. every semester.
The bus trip will cost around $40 per student with a total cost around $2,500. This is less than the usual trips taken to New York, due to the use of only one bus, as well as a significantly lower amount of students able to attend the trip.
"Rhode Island is going to be fun. I cant wait to go to the mall, shops, get food, I even have some friends down there I can go and see," said junior business major Tim Patton.
Many students do not feel the same way however. "I live down there, I go there all the time, why take a day to go back to a place I go all the time," said junior television studies major Erica Ponte.
Dan Haycook agrees, saying "I would much rather go to New York or a place like that. Some place where there is a full day's worth of stuff to do. I can get to Providence whenever I want."
