Freshmen and sophomores campaign for executive board seats
In just a few short days we will know who our new Student Government executive board is compiled of, but do you really know them?
While the most storied races are historically for president, there are two other positions being pursued by relatively new faces on campus. Sophomore Meghan Dolyak, who will be running unopposed, is pursuing the Administrative vice president seat.
Dolyak is a sophomore special education major from Sandy Hook, Conn. She is currently serving as a second year representative on the SGA, and looks to continue her positive experience as an SGA representative at the next level.
Through e-mail Meghan stated, "I want to serve as an active voice for the student body on the SGA Executive Board…I have had a tremendous time serving as an elected representative, but now I want to serve at the next level, representing every student on campus."
According to the constitution administrative vice president candidates must have one semester of experience in the SGA, a 2.5 GPA or higher, a reasonable judicial record and they cannot serve on the executive board of any club.
The next position being campaigned for is the financial controller, and is being pursued by two freshmen. The first candidate is Julie Austin.
Autin is a first year accounting major and member of the dance team is also looking to become more involved on campus.
"I am running for the financial controller position because it gives me a great opportunity to do something I am passionate about. I am hard working and never give up. I would be 100 percent committed to the job if elected," Austin said in an e-mail.
She also stated that she would not accept compensation because the valuable experience she would receive would be compensation enough.
The second candidate is first year Electronic Journalism major Daniel Weiner.
Weiner is a member of the tennis team, WWLR, and is currently the vice president of the Student Investment Club. Through e-mail he stated, "I love dealing with finances…and consider it one of my favorite hobbies. I have actively traded for four years and won the fall 2010 stock trading competition. I feel that my knowledge after talking to the current Financial Controller will make a easy and streamlined process into this new role."
Elections are being held currently and will end Wednesday at 3 p.m. Students can vote either online at lyndonsga.com or in the ATT Lobby.
