Students sign up for protests

Today was the day faculty were supposed to be notified of reappointment for next year.

However, with President Carol Moore announcing her retirement the decisions have been pushed back until May 2.

In the past several weeks, students have held a sit-in protest in the Alexander Twilight Theatre, traveled to Montpelier to speak with legislators, and attended an open forum with President Carol Moore to discuss solutions to a growing deficit problem.

Dan Haycook, one of the main student leaders of the protests, plans to meet with administrators next week.

"Hopefully we'll see a positive outcome from all of this," he said.

Haycook said that the protest today, which included students walking around campus wearing signs around their necks in support of faculty, was to show they are not giving up their cause.

"It's just kind of a way to show that we still stand for our faculty, and we're not happy with the decisions that are being made, even though there's not much we can do to change that right now," he said.

Several incoming student tour groups walked through campus today, seeing numerous posters targeting Moore as the cause of potential faculty cuts.
