LSC Honor Society Serves St. Jay
Alpha Lambda Delta (ALD) members are eager to volunteer.
After hearing of the great success of a small group of the national honors society members who volunteered at the St. Johnsbury community lunch this past Saturday, more members are signing up to give back to the community.
"The members who went last week were a big help and felt that volunteering was very regarding and this week different ALD members are going to help since only a few volunteers were needed each week," says Lyndon's ALD chapter President Emma Shattuck.
The ALD organization message states, "to promote intelligent living and a continued high standard of learning, and to assist students in recognizing and developing meaningful goals for their unique roles in society." That's just what the honor society did this past Saturday and plans to continue doing tomorrow.
Shattuck believes it is very important to give back to the community in which you live.
"Jonathan Ross sends out emails with service opportunities and as a collective group we decided it would be a great opportunity to serve our local community," she said.
Ross, a Residence Hall Director in Wheelock, is in charge of community service activities throughout campus. According to Shattuck, ALD has worked extensively with Ross this year to find more service opportunities across the Northeast Kingdom.
But they won't stop there. Shattuck has big plans for the rest of the semester. In the upcoming weeks ALD has planned a bake sale and raffle to benefit a local charity that the club will vote on. They will be volunteering at green up day and planting flowers on Saturday April 21. At the end of the semester they will also be having an induction ceremony and dinner for new members and their families.
