Earth Day Was Rockin' At LSC

Earth Day events at Lyndon State College drew large crowds with music and free activities.

The Sustainability Club had a table set up that showed passersby multiple things powered by solar energy such as a water pump. The solar panel would capture the solar energy and pump water up a spout.

Right next to them people could make mud paintings with the leisure and society class. "Finger painting with mud is awesome," said student Andy Larvia.

Across the path students could take canoes out onto the campus pond and paddle around and enjoy the sun.

LSC freshman Sarah Redman said "It was wicked fun. I almost fell over in the canoe. It was quite the scare."

Bands such as Red Tin Box, Suncooked, and Stanford Blackout played during the event. Jess Curly, a freshman at LSC, said that "the music [was] rocking." All three bands had a different feel to them but all three grew quite the crowd.

The bands where supposed to be powered by the solar bus but it was having issues and was unable to make it to campus.

The Mountain Bike Club had several games available to play including a bikes toss, longest skid contest, and a highest bunny hop contest. Players with the highest score won prizes such as a free pizza from Hoagies, $10 to Bagel Depot, Camelbak backpacks, and one student even won $40 to Village Skate and Snow. The winnings were not free, however. Students had to buy five tickets at the cost of one dollar.

"Today's definitely earth day" said freshmen Tyler Powell with a smile on his face.
